Mike Tyson stopped by Ryan Garcia's locker room Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and appraised the shirtless "KingRy" before Garcia fought Devin Haney.
"Have you been eating bricks?" Tyson asked.
Replied Garcia, "Yes, I'm going to eat (Haney) today."
"You look beautiful," Tyson said.
Smiling, Garcia thanked the former heavyweight champ.
During a celebratory moment after Garcia knocked Haney down three times and won the fight by majority decision, Garcia asked, "Hey, where’s Mike at? Mike Tyson, come through."
Tyson was a busy man during his trip to New York for the fight, based on videos posted on his Instagram account.
At one point, Tyson ended up shirtless on the streets and playfully tussled with Shannon Briggs, the former heavyweight champion.
He also visited Times Square and admired a giant, electric billboard for Tyson 2.0, his person brand of marijuana. "Grow Like Mike," it read. (According to Tyson’s publicist, "Iron Mike" will stop using marijuana while training for his fight against Jake Paul July 20, but he didn’t agree to stop selling it.)
Jake Paul reacts to Ryan Garcia-Devin Haney fight
Jake Paul relayed his thoughts on X, formerly Twitter, while watching the fight with his brother Logan and girlfriend.
"This is the craziest fight I’ve ever seen," he posted.
Garcia scored three knockdowns, and each time Haney rose to the feet.
"Man what an amazing fight and so unexpected," Jake Paul wrote. "I seriously can’t breathe Both are warriors and savages and never underestimate anyone."
A video showed Jake Paul standing as he waited for the judges’ scorecards to be announced. He covered his mouth in apparent surprise after hearing the results.
Ryan Garcia offers post-fight thoughts
After going dark on social media for most of the day leading up to his fight, Garcia was back at it on X not long after his victory.
Among his comments:
"Ref that 7th round should’ve been stopped," he wrote, referring to his first knockdown of Haney.
He also didn’t think his point deduction for hitting on the break in the seventh round was warranted: "…never received a warning," Garcia wrote.
Haney also took to X and wrote of himself, "fought like a true champion. Got up off the canvas & kept fighting. I am 100% ok & would love to do it again while we both make weight."
Likewise, Garcia said he would welcome a rematch with Haney.
